myanimelist.net/animelist/FlamingoRunnerHaruhi is my nostalgia fav, One Piece is legendary, I also like Kokoro Connect, School Rumble, FMA: Brotherhood, and Madoka Magica. Also I like a lot of SoL and romcoms in general.

In keeping with your listing six of your favorites, I'll list six of mine.
1. One Piece: This is an amazing series, but I never recommend it because it starts so slow. You start out following a few pretty simple characters on their quests to complete their life goals, but the scope of the show widens over time as you slowly gain an understanding of the backgrounds of each character, and the mysteries and injustices that underpin all of the world's foundation. The foreshadowing, character development, and world-building take a long time. The show is emotional rollercoaster filled with comedy, but liable to suddenly hit you with hugely significant anger and woe at a critical point.
2. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood: This show is amazingly crafted. The world isn't quite as enormous and impressive as that of One Piece, but in return you get a tightly paced show with excellent animation and music, which never devolves into filler. The characters are endearing, the plot is engaging, the comedy and tragedy is mixed in a way that really impressed me.
3. Nichijou: Nichijou isn't a shounen anime with a large and exciting world. It's a comedy about a few Japanese schoolgirls. Normally, I think of the slice of life genre as stale and overdone, but this is the pinnacle of what that genre can offer. The show is comedic gold, keeping you on your toes with unexpected jokes, anti-jokes, and art style changes. If you like comedy in your anime, then you won't regret watching this.
4. Cowboy Bebop: This is a classic. Set in a world inspired by cowboys, space ships, and Jazz music, Cowboy Bebop delivers beautifully without tainting any of its influences. Both the subbed and dubbed versions are well-regarded among anime fans, and the soundtrack is top tier. If you want romance, you may want to look elsewhere, but if you like action, comedy, or impressive visuals, then this is a show that has all three done so well that it's lasted as a household anime title for a decade and a half, and it shows no signs of fading into obscurity.
5. Clannad: This was my first romance anime, and I still regard it as the best I've seen (although this may be colored by nostalgia). Based on the visual novel of the same name, Clannad starts out following a male protagonist who is in serious danger of drowning in the pussy... Okay not really, but he has his fair share of possible female suitors to choose from, thanks to the original story being a dating sim. By the end of the first series he chooses a girl, and the next part is all about their struggles in their relationship. Funny, heartwarming, and especially heartwrenching, this show is where I'd tell anyone to go if they asked for a romance anime to watch.
6. Digimon Tamers: "Whaat, Digimon? I'm not a little kid anymore, Mors!" First off, yes you are you whiny motherfucker. Secondly, if you come into this show expecting a normal vanilla heartwarming tale of friendship and love, then you'll be a bit surprised. When I watch it, I'm surprised it ever got shown on Disney's Jetix. The show was created by the creator of Serial Experiments Lain, and he's a huge fan of Neon Genesis Evangelion. The show deconstructs and reconstructs the meaning behind the -mon genre, and the absurdity of children being sent to fight with giant monsters. I'll admit it's not the best anime out there, but it has a lot of personality, great character development, and catchy music. Watch the Japanese version so you don't miss out on the more hardcore parts that were censored in the US.

Here's my list: myanimelist.net/animelist/MegaRevolution1However, ignoring the list, my top three are Cowboy Bebop, Madoka Magica, and Evangelion. Gurren Lagann gets a VERY honorable mention and large apology for being bumped out by Evangelion. While Madoka Magica was going to be there anyways, I feel like I should mention how Evangelion got bumped up to the top 3 because of its move, End of Evangelion. Without End, it would have been in the top 5, not the top three.
